The Healing Power of Authentic Conversations

In a world where so much remains unspoken, the act of sharing your worries, regrets, and struggles can be incredibly liberating. My hope as your therapist is to provide a space where you feel comfortable and welcome to do just that—speak your truth, explore your thoughts, and work towards a better life.

Know that you don’t have to face your struggles alone, if you are 16 years or older and wrestling with challenges like anxiety, anger, regret, trauma, shame, grief, or relationship challenges, I am here to help. My approach to therapy is one that starts simply, without pressure, but builds over time, to help you make lasting and meaningful changes.

In Your Greatest Moments of Stress There Is Also the Opportunity For Great Change

I have worked as a mental health care professional for over two decades. In that time, I’ve seen many people struggling to figure out why their lives feel so hard, why they can’t just “get over things and get on with life”. Quite often the reason is because it’s nearly impossible to figure it all out on your own. We are social beings, and even the most introverted person still needs human connection. In moments of crisis, that’s when many people finally feel like it’s time to see a therapist - which is where I come in.

Therapy Can help You Find A New Direction When You’re Feeling Stuck

I’ve been working in the field of mental health for many years and have traveled my own wellness journey too. One thing I’ve noticed is how helpful having an outside perspective can be when you’re feeling stuck. This applies to so many aspects of life, from struggling with unwanted habits and behaviours (from eating disorders to substance use) to trying to rediscover yourself after a big change has happened (like becoming a parent, changing jobs, or graduating). I’m a Registered Psychotherapist and I support people who are dealing with depression, anxiety, substance use, eating disorders, perinatal mental health, and those who are looking for a way forward in life - one with more meaning and purpose.

Yes, The Way You Eat Can Impact Your Mental Health

Food is fuel, but food is also community, its nostalgia, it’s love, it’s pain, and sometimes it can even be a source of shame. I’ve met countless people who are frustrated with the mixed messages they receive around what, why and how to eat.

I became interested in the way that food can support our mental health when I started seeing a therapist to work on my own anxiety and low mood. I noticed that I was being consistently reminded by my doctor and therapist that eating well and exercising was an important part of improving my mental health. I took their words seriously and I started to see how certain foods made me feel both physically and emotionally. I also listened to the feedback from my clients who shared that a nutrient rich diet combined with more mindful eating practices weren’t just positively impacting their physical health, but also their emotions.

Living with unresolved trauma can be a burden so large that it colours every aspect of your world. It’s a big step to even recognize (or hope) that life could be different with therapy.

Before I became a psychotherapist, I worked as a Kinesiologist for over a decade. It was from helping people recover from physical injuries, that I became aware of how much the emotional state of a person can influence their health and wellbeing. I saw how depression, anxiety and post traumatic stress disorder could impact a person’s physical recovery from an injury or surgery. I also witnessed that if someone had the right social support, or if their overall mood and outlook on life was relatively balanced, their physical outcomes were often more positive. These observations impacted me deeply, and I realized that I could do more for people in the field of mental health, than working only with the physical side of things. As a psychotherapist, I specialize in a form of therapy called Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy which is clinically proven to be especially helpful for those who carry trauma from their past. I also am trained in Existential Therapy, Jungian Counselling, and other evidence based mental health modalities for individuals and couples to offer support for whatever you may be struggling with.

Therapy Is About Learning Who You Really Are

As a therapist, I am here to help you to see yourself with a fresh perspective. Sometimes what that means is taking a look at all your beliefs about yourself and deciding if those beliefs come from yourself, or actually from those around you as you grew up. Maybe you struggle with feeling not good enough, or as someone who has never really quite fit, but the thing is, these thoughts don’t have to be permanent, with small steps, things can change.

People see me for many reasons, including feeling stuck and confused, recognizing that a change is needed but not knowing where to start, unresolved childhood trauma, being the adult child of a narcissist or alcoholic, or anxiety about public speaking. As an experienced Registered Psychotherapist, I have many ways of helping you to resolve issues, or to explore where your long held, negative (and often unwanted) beliefs have come from. I use many different methods including EMDR, CBT, Brainspotting, and I also provide faith based counselling (by request).

Counselling is not about being fixed, it’s about realizing you were never broken to begin with.

You may have inner emotional wounds from past hurts, but you are far from being “broken”. As a therapist, I’ll support you in exploring the areas of life that are causing you discomfort, and we can adjust what’s needed, to ease your pain. I’ve been working in mental health for over 10 years and while I work with a number of approaches, I mainly utilize two forms of trauma therapy with my clients. Both EMDR and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy are able to help work on the deeper processes that can interrupt your life.
